Great Sand Dunes, Colorado
26 July 2018
9am and it was already extremely very warm here. I made my way into the park and found a picnic table to start cooking up a brunch. I went more towards the lunch side, cooking up some rice and squash. I sat in the shade and enjoyed the laughter floating through the wind and the comfort of not being in the sun. Afternoon came and it was still quite hot, I wasn't up to heading out to the dunes yet. I set up my hammock, napped, read, cooked more squash and rice for dinner. Soon, the golden hour was upon us. I made my way to the dunes with my wheelless skateboard in hand. Turns out it would only slightly work and I had to be on the steepest dunes.
Sunset drew nearer, I wanted to be on the top of the dunes for sun set and attempted my way up. The winds got stronger and stronger the higher I got. Soon, the sand was like sandpaper on my skin, my eyes stinging, the wind pushing me off balance, I turned back. I made my way to the bottom and sat in the sand and just enjoyed the view as the night took over this lovely landscape.
The park is fairly small, besides the dunes, you can do some backcountry hiking and camping.
I am currently traveling the Western United States. If you would like to meet up and explore, hike, go on a photo adventure, etc. please just reach out to me. I'm always down to clown.
